OPINION OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

The Catholic Church has expressed its opinion on the climate crisis for hundreds of years. They believe very deeply that the Earth needs to be protected and that we should not ruin it with our human activity, we should do our best to protect what God has worked very hard to give us. The most recent example is in 2015 when Pope Francis wrote his second encyclical letter “Laudato Si” which urges all Catholics to take action on climate change. He talks about how the Earth is our common home and we need to care for and protect it for the poor and future generations. Catholics today teach the Commitment of Saint Francis so that they “take care of creation and the poor and join the Catholic Climate Alliance”. Some Catholics still don't believe in climate change, but as Pope and the Popes before him continue to spread this message, many Catholics do. The Catholic Church continues to focus on climate action and stand ready to act when its help is needed. Their position aligns with the idea that more people should acquire knowledge and skills to help tackle the climate crisis, so they would strongly agree that more should be learned and earlier than today.
